Laren Sovereign Mines was originally founded by Carter Laren as a means of increasing the efficiency of his family’s own Bitcoin mining operation, but interest from friends and other family members soon made it clear that many investors were looking for a similar solution. Laren offered them a straightforward deal: space and operational oversight in exchange for a modest portion of profits, and Laren Sovereign Mines was born.
The company currently operates both Bitcoin and Litecoin mines in the state of Washington, where power is inexpensive and corporate taxes are nonexistent.
What is money, really?
When many people think of the word “money,” they think of small bits of paper and have a vague notion that it represents a kind of “necessary evil.” But money is one of the most important, vital, and benevolent inventions in the history of mankind. For a great soliloquy on money, go here to read Francisco D’Anconia’s money speech from Atlas Shrugged.
As a serial entrepreneur, angel investor, and venture capitalist, Carter has been active in the blockchain space for several years and was the first investor in Metal, a Venmo-like cryptocurrency payments platform. Early in his career, Laren spent over a decade as a cryptosystems engineer, designing and implementing cryptography-based solutions for a variety of industries, including for organization such as Directv and Blu-ray. He currently serves on the board of several technology companies.
